The K-Pop industry is once again in mourning. The music site Soompi announced Tuesday the death of Yohan, 28, member of the group TST. The causes of his death are not yet known, at the request of the family. K-Pop's real name Kim Jeong-hwan made his debut with the group NOM in 2015 and joined TST in 2017.
In this new group, he is accompanied by three other singers: Ain, Junghoon and Yonghyeon. Together, they will release two albums in their first year, Time's Up and Wake Up. More recently, the group released their fourth single-album Count down in January.
Yohan's body is at Severance Hospital in Sinchon, South Korea. He will be transferred to Yongin cemetery on June 18 before being buried. The TST group has still not reacted to the news but the large K-pop community has mobilized on social networks including some stars like Lee Ki-seop of the group U-Kiss. "I loved you very much Yohan, I miss you" he wrote on the singer's latest publication on Instagram.
It is not the first time that the TST group has been in the spotlight. In 2018, singer Lee Kyeongha was sentenced to 18 months suspended prison sentence for sexual assault on a minor. The world of K-pop also has a large number of victims, mostly by suicide. The pressure of this music industry but also that of the fans are most often the source of these dramas. The year 2019 was for example marked by a large-scale rape case and the suicides of three singers in a few months. In South Korea, suicide is the leading cause of death among those under 40, according to a report published in September 2019 by Statistics Korea.
